🩺 Our Kitten Care Schedule
At BritRoyal, raising healthy, confident, and well-socialised kittens begins long before they are ready to leave for their new homes. Every stage of a kitten's development is carefully monitored, with veterinary care, nutrition, socialisation, and emotional wellbeing all playing an important role in helping them become wonderful family companions.
At BritRoyal we also choose to keep our kittens until approximately 14–16 weeks of age. This allows us to complete all veterinary requirements, monitor their development, and provide valuable additional time with their mother and litter mates.
🍼 Birth to 5 Weeks
The first few weeks of life are focused entirely on growth and development.
During this time kittens remain with their mother, who provides both nutrition and important behavioural lessons. We monitor each kitten closely through regular weight checks and daily handling to ensure they are growing appropriately and becoming comfortable with human interaction from an early age.
As the kittens begin to explore their surroundings, they are gradually exposed to normal household sounds and activities to build confidence and resilience.
🐾 6 Weeks Old
At approximately six weeks of age, kittens attend their first veterinary appointment.
This visit includes:
✔ Comprehensive health examination
✔ First F3 vaccination
✔ Growth and development assessment
We use this appointment to ensure each kitten is developing appropriately and to identify any concerns early.
Around this age, kittens are becoming increasingly independent, learning litter habits, exploring their environment, and developing their unique personalities.
🐾 10 Weeks Old
At ten weeks of age, kittens return to the veterinarian for:
✔ Second F3 vaccination
✔ Microchipping
✔ Follow-up health examination
Microchipping provides permanent identification and allows us to ensure each kitten can be properly transferred to their new owner.
By this stage kittens are becoming much more interactive and playful, while continuing to learn important social skills from their littermates.
🐾 14 Weeks Old
At approximately fourteen weeks of age, kittens receive:
✔ Third F3 vaccination
✔ Desexing procedure
We have chosen a three-vaccination schedule and desexing at approximately 14 weeks of age as part of our kitten care program, in consultation with our veterinarian.
This approach allows us to monitor each kitten's growth and development, complete their scheduled veterinary care and provide a supervised recovery period before they join their new family.
🩺 Post-Operative Recovery
Following desexing, kittens remain in our care for a minimum of seven days.
This recovery period allows us to:
✔ Monitor healing closely
✔ Ensure kittens are eating and drinking normally
✔ Observe behaviour and comfort levels
✔ Address any concerns immediately if they arise
We do not believe kittens should undergo surgery and then immediately transition to a new home. Recovery takes place here under our supervision so families can focus on settling in their new kitten once they arrive home.
🏡 Socialisation and Daily Life
Health care is only one part of raising a well-rounded kitten.
Our kittens are raised within our family environment alongside children, everyday household noises, visitors, routines, and normal daily activities.
Throughout their time with us they are exposed to:
🐾 Household sounds such as televisions, vacuum cleaners and appliances
🐾 Regular handling and grooming
🐾 Different people and interactions
🐾 Age-appropriate toys and enrichment activities
🐾 Daily routines and family life
This helps our kittens develop into confident companions who are well-adjusted and prepared for life in a family home.
❤️ Our Philosophy
Our goal is not simply to produce beautiful cats.
We are committed to raising kittens that are healthy, confident, affectionate, and prepared for a lifetime with their new families.
Every decision we make regarding veterinary care, socialisation, nutrition, and timing is based on giving our kittens the very best start possible.
When a BritRoyal kitten leaves for their new home, they leave as a much-loved member of our family and are fully prepared to become a cherished member of yours.
